West Bengal’s descent into madness
Since coming to power in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress has, among other things, decided to paint all government buildings blue, transfers cops for solving a rape case, ordered Rabindranath Tagore’s songs to be played at all traffic lights, sacked a cabinet minister for raising railway fares for the first time in 10 years, had a professor arrested for emailing a cartoon of her, and then tried to force Facebook to remove cartoons of her and has ordered it’s cadre to not get married to, or even talk to, cadre from the opposition party.
She’s done some nice things, but what is wrong with her?
UPDATE: She advises people to avoid news channels that criticize the government, and watch entertainment channels instead.
UPDATE: She orders the police to photograph and investigate members of a TV audience who said things she didn’t like. She stormed out of the studio, refusing to answer questions on the grounds that the students asking them were Maoists.
UPDATE: She believes that the increasing incidence of rape is because men and women can now interact more freely.
